The Women and Gender Advocacy Center will host the 2018 Feminist Thought & Activism Conference, Planting Flowers of Resistance: Finding Feminist Roots in Times of Political Turmoil.
In the midst of a difficult and often exhausting social and political climate, many people are left with a feeling of fatigue. In dealing with this constant exhaustion, it is imperative to unite as a CSU community and share our feminist thoughts and activism efforts.
The image of a flower provides this conference with numerous symbols. The roots of the plant represent the social, political, economic, and environmental justice thoughts shared at this conference. This complex network of support nurtures the growth of the flower into full-bloom, where it can take thoughts and turn them into action. The shape, shade, and size of the flower represent the different creative, critical ways that we show up in our current climate. This year’s theme is an invitation to recharge, recenter, and reaffirm our commitment to the values contingent for liberation.
The one-day conference is designed to be educational and entertaining, providing opportunities for the community to engage in conversations surrounding gender and other social justice issues. Throughout the day the conference hosts a keynote and several breakout sessions that allow attendees to take part in critical dialogue and reflection.
